Candidates design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning.

Reflection:
The GAPSS Analysis of our
Current Reality at Timber Ridge is the artifact that I chose to represent
Standard 5.3. The GAPPS Analysis took an
in-depth look at how well Professional Learning is handled at Timber
Ridge. In this artifact, professional
learning is defined as: the means by which teachers, administrators and other
school and system employees acquire, enhance and refine the knowledge, skills,
and commitment necessary to create and support high levels of learning for all
students.
The analysis asked that I take a good look at the pedagogical skills of the professional learning that is currently happening at Timber Ridge. I had to rate each standard on the GAPPS as: Not Addressed, Emergent, Operational, or Fully Operational. After rating each standard, I had to prove my answer with evidence as backup for my rating. It also required that I include recommendations that would benefit our school.
I learned so much about the different ways professional learning can be measured. I gained a new respect for all that administration is responsible for. This GAPPS Analysis assignment improved my skills in regards to evaluating and analyzing programs in our schools. In addition, it has improved my skills and then evaluating programs and analyzing their effectiveness to see how they can be improved and then make recommendations for improvement. This GAPPS Analysis reflects mastery of Standard 5.3 as I implemented program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning.
This artifact impacted Timber Ridge as I discussed many of the standards with my principal. He helped me understand why emphasis is being placed on specific matters at this time and which ones will be focused on in the coming years. I think discussing these professional learning standards with me was beneficial to him as he is a first year principal and trying to do his best but has surely been overwhelmed in his first year. Seeing this GAPPS Analysis reminded him of the importance of professional development.
