2.1 Content Standards & Student Technology Standards
Candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards. (PSC 2.1/ISTE 2a)
Artifact: Multimedia Design Project
Reflection:
I would like to show mastery of the Content Standards & Student Technology Standards with my multimedia design project. I created this artifact in the ITEC 7445 Multimedia class. This class was one of my first classes in this ITEC program. I was very impressed with all that Dr. Moore taught us in our first semester. After taking this class, I had reaffirmed my decision of pursuing my Master’s in Instructional Technology as being the best program for me. This multimedia design project shows mastery of standard 2.1 in many ways. Beginning with the design of the multimedia design project, we had just been taught about the ADDIE method in class. It was beneficial to know that information before beginning the design of my multimedia design project. It was with careful planning and designing that I created my Webquest, “Let’s Make Writing More Exciting.”
When designing my Webquest, I started with looking at the Common Core Standards that I am required to teach. With these standards in mind, I was able to search many ideas before deciding on the best design that would engage my students, allow for differentiation, and give feedback providing results that determined mastery. In addition, I created a rubric that was valuable in evaluating the students.
Listed below are the content standards and the technology standards that this multimedia design project covered:
The Common Core Standards that are being addressed in this WebQuest are
● ELACC1SL4-Describes nouns and events with relevant details, express ideas thoughts and feelings clearly
● ELACC1L2- Demonstrates use of adjectives
The GA PSC Standards that will be utilized in this WebQuest are:
The NETS-S standards that will be applied are:
1. Creativity and Innovation- Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.
4. Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making- Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digitals tools and resources.
6. Technology Operations and Concepts- Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations.
I implemented this Webquest in my classroom the same semester that I created it, December 2012. This technology- enhanced opportunity met my content standards as well as technology standards. This project provided engaging, higher-level thinking, and differentiation for all students.
I learned so much from this project. Since this project could not have gone better for my entire class, it affirmed that children can master standards through technology-enhanced activities. I also learned that providing engaging activities that meet technology and content standards can make learning fun. That message was passed along to me when I had the students evaluate the Webquest through a simple survey. They repeatedly asked me to repeat the Webquest. By having them do that was another form of an evaluation for me. I could tell that they enjoyed it and allowing them to repeat it provided a great refresher on adjectives on each attempt.
This multimedia design project impacted our school by increasing the amount of technology the students were using to meet technology and content standards. That is one of the goals at our school and with this Webquest Design Project, the only method to complete it was through use of technology.
