Introduction
Hello, my name in Melinda Butler. I am currently a student at Kennesaw State
University. I am pursuing my Master's
Degree in Instructional Technology. This
is a two year program that began in the fall of 2012. I plan to graduate after completing the
summer semester in 2014. This is an
online program which has been new to me but also rewarding to see a new way of
using technology in education.
In 1982 I graduated from Siena Heights University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I taught elementary education for seven years in Michigan and Chicago, IL. I took six years off to be a full time mom and during that time, we relocated to Georgia. Since 2000, I have been back teaching full time in Cobb County in first grades.
I had always wanted to go back to pursue my Master’s Degree but didn’t want to take more time away from my own children. I decided to wait until my three children had graduated from high school to pursue this next goal of mine. In teaching, I have always incorporated as much technology as possible even with my first graders. This led me to believe that pursuing my Master’s in Instructional Technology would be the best choice for me to specialize in. My goal is to become a technology coach. I love sharing ideas that I find and helping others get started using those ideas in their classrooms. I am not afraid of technology and love to pilot new technology programs/software for our school so that I can present/reflect how each grade level can use it in their classrooms.
The purpose of this portfolio is for me to demonstrate mastery of the PSC Instructional Technology standards and the ISTE NETS-C standards. There are a series of links above the KSU logo that you can visit. Of particular importance is the "standards" link. Under this link, you will see a series of artifacts and reflections documenting the important work I have completed during this program. Each artifact represents mastery of the standard under which it is represented.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Kennesaw State University, and feel that I am well-prepared to integrate technology into my classroom, to assist other educators in using technology, and providing professional learning opportunities for them.
