3.3 Online & Blended Learning
Candidates develop, model, and facilitate the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and choices for professional learning for teachers and administrators. (PSC 3.3/ISTE 3c)
Reflection: his artifact provided an opportunity for me to show I developed, facilitated, modeled, and used the online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning. For this Standard, I submitted my Multimedia Design Project which was created during the first semester of this program, in ITEC 7445. This was an exciting project because it was the first time I had ever created a Webquest. I was able to share it with my teammates as well.
Developing this Webquest was a major accomplishment for me. I had researched a lot to be able to include activities that were just right for my students in first grade. After creating this Webquest, even though I wanted everyone to get started right away, I needed to model it first. Since it does go in sequential order, I needed to make sure that they understood the directions and how to get to the next page. This Webquest had assignments that provided the online and blended learning opportunities of this standard. I made sure that this had the right skill level, a good engagement level, along with a good assessment piece. It also included a component for differentiation providing for lower level and higher level students.
From this artifact, I am now able to understand how much time and work goes into each and every game or activity like this. I learned that it takes a lot of patience as you go through and look for the right activity that matches up with the standards you need to include. This experience has prepared me to be a better technology facilitator of online and blended learning experiences. I learned a lot as this was a first for me. I learned that making activities engaging is key for students to want to repeat it.
I believe that this WebQuest has impacted Timber Ridge immensely. The children ally loved it and loved doing it repeatedly. Interacting online with the next appropriate activities and connecting with the learning networks to support and extend learning is a newer alternative that Timber Ridge has not been exposed to. It is these types of blended and online learning that our new principal wants to welcome in more classrooms. I am fortunate to be the one that is introducing these types of activities to our school. This was a very rewarding project and I look forward to my next Webquest.
