Artifact: Weebly Blog
Reflection:
The artifact that I used to demonstrate mastery in Diversity, Cultural Understanding, and Global Awareness is my Diversity Blog Posting. I created it during the end of my first year in the program in class ITEC 7430. At this time, we were learning about Standard 4.3. We had read articles about Diversity and made sure our activities that we were creating were also diversified.
This artifact shows mastery by use of digital tools and resources to support diverse student needs, enhance cultural understanding, and increase global awareness. The World Wide Web helps connect students across the globe. When students connect with other students across the nation or across the world, they are abler to share ideas and their creativity. The children of today are so fortunate to have this opportunity. The World Wide Web opens up possibilities that may not have been there for them without Internet capabilities. Students are able to communicate with other people from around the world in many fashions. It can be through Youtube videos, blogs, social media, even live chats allow for students to directly interact with each other across the world. From the years of teaching experience that I have, it has been easy to see the vast differences and opportunities that the children of today have compared with the children of yesterday. These children do not see the whole world as such a large place anymore. Children feel as if everyone almost in the same place and same time zone when you are communicating so freely with others in different parts of the world.
I learned so much about our world and how small it has become to the children of today. The time difference does not affect our children in the least. The children today do not feel threatened our world at all. They have been blogging in my room and can see how people around the world can check out our blog. They are not fearful of anything across continents or oceans. It is exciting to see that and their way of thinking. Utilizing the internet helps students understand and respect cultural diversity.
This Standard, 4.3 has affected our school by making me more aware of our cultural differences. I used to think that since I treat everyone the same, I wasn’t being culturally diverse. Instead, I often get the information of the holidays that different families celebrate. By making me a more culturally diverse teacher, I am impacting Timber Ridge. I will share my plans to include every one’s national holiday for celebration or at least a story about it. I think that is fair and the least I can do for some of my students.
